The last 3 Star Wars’ films released in December 2015, 2016 and 2017, so it was a surprise when Lucasfilm and Disney decided to bring out Solo in the middle of this year. This is just 5 months after The Last Jedi and within a month from 2 action-packed films – Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2.

The movie is set years before Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) can join the Rebellion, Solo traces his encounters with Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), Beckett (Woody Harrelson), Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke), and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover). When Han leaves Corellia, he promises to come back to save his lover Qi’ra. In order to accomplish this task, he needs money and joins forces with Beckett, Val, and Chewbacca. After a heist goes wrong, they are indebted to the gangster Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany) and now they have to steal a batch of valuable coaxium for him.

Solo is a standalone film and you don’t have to be invested in the Star Wars franchise to enjoy it. Ehrenreich manages to bring a freshness to Hans Solo’s part and this role should do wonders for his career. Emilia Clarke is easily the biggest star in this project, owing to the popularity of HBO’s Game of Thrones. The CGI is terrific and the action scenes will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat. It’s got topnotch special effects and plenty of adrenaline-pumping sequences. Just go for it.
