1. France (82.6 million visitors)

In the field of tourism with 82.6 million visitors, France stands in the first place. The county has a very high number of UNESCO world heritage sites (37) that are well recognized all over the world for their value. Same as France, its capital city, Paris is the most visited city in the world. Almost 10% of the country’s GDP is contributed from the tourism sector.

2. United States (75.6 million visitors)

The United States is a very big country and has a number of visitors attractions for the global travellers. It secures a second place with 75.6 million visitors. The most visited cities in the U.S include New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The country includes many natural attractions such as Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park and the Hawaiian beaches.

3. Spain (75.6 million visitors)

The major industry in Spain is the tourism which contributes 11% to the country’s GDP. It is a hotspot for tourist attractions with 75.6 million visitors. It hosts historical cities like Barcelona and Madrid. The country celebrates many festivals such as Carnival, bull-fights  and adrenaline-charged fiestas. It also boasts mouth-watering dishes.

4. China (59.3 million visitors)

China is one of the most desired destinations in the world with 59.3 million visitors. The country is a home for many important cultural and historical sites such as the Great Wall of China, the Shaolin temple, the forbidden city and the Three Gorges dam. It is estimated that the tourist’s for China is going to increase rapidly in the coming years and may take the number one place by 2020 according to WTO.

5. Italy (52.4 million visitors)

Italy has the highest number of UNESCO world heritage sites, 53. The most visited cities of this country include Rome, Venice and Milan. It has a rich art, history, cultural and archeological sites. It is also famous for its cuisine. With 52.4 million visitors, Italy takes the fifth place.

The next five countries in the list include United Kingdom (35.8 million visitors); Germany (35.6 million visitors); Mexico (35 million visitors); Thailand (32.6 million visitors); Malaysia (26.8 million visitors).
