Most Mind-Bending Hollywood Movies Ever Made

There are some mind-bending Hollywood movies (literally) which you need to watch again to get a gist of them as you never were able to completely understand them when you first watched.

Some take you into the future while some show you how smart you are and stimulate your brain. With that said, here are some of the best Hollywood movies ever made that will truly test your intelligence.

The movie stars Morgan Freeman and Scarlet Johansson and the plot revolves around the ’10 percent of brain myth’ with Scarlet Johansson accidentally bumping into a dark deal and develops psychokinetic abilities when a bag of drug sewn into her abdomen is ruptured. She becomes a superhuman and continuously evolves beyond human logic. The movie leaves the viewers speculating about what we could achieve if we used 100 percent of our brains.

This Neil Burger directed movie comes very close to Lucy in the making. It stars Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper and Abbie Cornish among others. Eddie Morra, played by Bradley Cooper, is a struggling writer who is given a sample of a smart drug which helps him become a perfect vision of himself for a few hours. With his new found abilities, Eddie reaches the top of the financial world all the while having some unwanted attention. He is soon faced with dwindling supply of the drug and has side effects he’d never imagined.

It’s really hard to explain what this movie is about without spoiling the movie’s theme. It’s based on mind exploration phenomena but at a very unprecedented level. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard among others. DiCaprio plays a thief who steals information by infiltrating the subconscious. He is to implant an idea of a person into the subconscious of the target. Once on his mission, he realizes that he has to go farther than he and his team have actually thought and finds himself deeper in dreams. The remainder of the film revolves around how he comes out of the limbo forever.

A Beautiful Mind

This movie, directed by Ron Howard, stars Russel Crowe in the lead role and is inspired by the biography of John Forbes Nash Jr. – economist and Noble prize winner. The Pentagon invites Nash, who is a mathematical genius, to crack an encrypted message that is actually an enemy telecommunication and Nash surprises everyone by deciphering it mentally. As he takes up some secret work in cryptography, his professional and personal life takes a turn due to his suffering from schizophrenia. After years of struggle Nash is able to triumph over his tragedy and goes on to receive a Nobel Prize.

This Duncan Jones film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as an Army pilot who is recruited for a top mission designed by the government – go back to the past and change the direction of the events in the present. Jake’s task is to find the culprit behind a train blast. Jake is able to go back into time just before 8 minutes to the blast and is himself confused. If he doesn’t find out who’s behind the train blast, the 8-minute time loop will start over again. Again, the movie has a touch of limitless but is good to watch if you suspend the judgement for a while.
