Best Movies Directed by Steven Spielberg


Steven Spielberg is one of the Hollywood’s best-known director and the most successful commercial filmmaker. He was one of the co-founders of studio DreamWorks in 1994, later purchased by Paramount Picture in 2005. A television film, Duel (1972) which was highly praised got him the opportunity to direct a movie.

He is considered the highest-grossing director in history as all the movies directed by him crosses $ 9 billion worldwide. He received two Academy Awards for Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan. Here are some of the best movies directed by Steven Spielberg.

Schindler’s List

Schindler’s List was released in 1993 and is considered to be Steven Spielberg’s crowning achievement. The movie is set during World War II and is about the horrors of the holocaust in which millions of Jews were murdered. It relates how Oskar Schindler’s (Liam Neeson) a German businessman, rescues over 1100 Jews from the Nazi concentration camps of World War II. Spielberg received his first Oscar for best director for this movie.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Riders of Lost Ark is an entertaining action film released in 1981. It features India Jones (Harrison Ford) an archeology professor and fearless adventurer, who has unearthed many ancient treasures. In the movie,  he sets out to find the long-lost Ark of the Covenant. The movie has thrills galore, from giant spiders to Nazi villains and 115 – minute thrill ride.

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park, the film is remarkable for the monster dinosaurs that were created especially for it and was released in 1993. In the movie, dinosaurs are the marvels of technology and the real stars of this adventure film. The movie stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum. It is a tale of blind scientific ambition that goes horribly awry. The movie was a blockbuster.

Saving Private Ryan

Saving Private Ryan was an epic war film, released in 1998. The movie was set during Invasion of Normandy in 1994 during World War II. The movie stars some of the greatest actors, Tom Hanks, Matt Damon and Vin Diesel. The movie received five Oscar awards and Spielberg got his second Oscar.


Jaws released in 1975, another masterpiece from the Spielberg. The movie is based on Peter Benchley’s novel, this saga of a shark frightened millions of moviegoers. The story is about a great white shark that terrorizes a small US coastal resort and the police chief Brody (Rod Scheider) get experts to come in help. It is an astonishingly effective thriller built on very basic emotion-fear.
