Ridley Scott is an English filmmaker born in Durham, England. He started pursuing films while in college and worked for the BBC. Then he founded his own production company Ridley Scott Associates along with his brother.

His first feature film was The Duellists (1977). The movie, Alien got him the worldwide reputation as a director. Alien (1979)

Alien is sci-fi horror movie and also the first movie that made a large Alien franchise. The movie stars Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright and Harry Dean Stanton. The movie is all about an extraterrestrial mysterious creature attacks the crew of a spaceship that lands to explore on moon. The movie has received Academy Award for best visual effects.

Blade Runner (1982)

Blade Runner is a neo-noir sci-fi movie that was adapted from Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? It is set in the futuristic year of 2019 in Los Angeles. An ex-cop, Rick Dekard is the Blade Runner (played by Harrison Ford) who is assigned to assassinate the bio-engineered synthetic humans called replicants. The movie is regarded as one of the cult sci-fi movies of all time.

Gladiator (2000)

Gladiator is epic historical drama which stars Russel Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix and Connie Nielsen. The movie is about a Roman general, Maximus (Russel Crowe) is betrayed by the emperor’s corrupt son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and later Maximus comes to Rome to take revenge. It won five Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor.

Black Hawk Down (2001)

Black Hawk Down is a war film which was based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Mark Bowden. The movie stars Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor and Eric Bana. The film’s plot is 160 elite U.S soldiers are dropped into Somali to capture two lieutenants from a rebellious warlord and get themselves involved in a battle with heavily armed Somalis. It has won two Academy Awards for Best Film Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

The Martian (2015)

The Martian is a sci-fi movie based on the novel with the same name by Andy Weir where an astronaut is stranded on Mars and presumed dead by his team. The movie depicts, how the astronaut struggles to survive and the efforts by his team to rescue him. It stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
